Since free trade agreements were finalized through the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC), Makro’s effective wholesale management system served as the foundation to expand the wholesale and retail business outside of Thailand, which presented an opportunity to bring to ASEAN market products from SMEs, Thai agricultural products, as well as frozen and fresh foods such as meat, among others. The sale of these products in ASEAN brings back foreign currencies into Thailand, and helps local small and medium enterprises, as well as Thai farmers bring their products to international markets. Currently, Makro has 123 franchises in Thailand and 1 branch in Cambodia.
